Lodi Enterprise Letter: Happy to be a local voice for the county's 25th

 Mar 15, 2024

I’m excited to be running for reelection to Columbia County Board! I recently enjoyed participating in a candidate forum to answer public questions. The video can be seen on the Lodi Optimist Club Facebook page, or I can email you the video link (ask me at friendsoftesscarr@gmail.com).

I’m running for this office again because I love my community and I love my kids, and I want to make local government more collaborative, respectful, productive, and efficient for them. All I want is what’s best for everyone who lives here, a desire we all share. Additionally, I have the time and the availability, as well as a strong legal and experienced interpersonal skill set, to help make that happen. And I try to diligently respond to resident concerns. If a resident has a county highway drainage problem on their property, I’m raising that issue at the next Highway Committee meeting. If there is a controversial local rezone request, I’ll be at that Planning and Zoning Committee meeting. I have a public Facebook page where I transparently share updates from the County Board with my residents. I attend Lodi Town Board meetings as often as possible to help serve as an informational liaison between the town and county. I try to be as approachable and open as possible because I really want to help and improve the quality of life of the residents of District 25 and all over Columbia County.

There are people knocking doors for my opponent who are calling me a “radical” partisan and making other untrue statements. I am confident that the residents of District 25 know me better than that. The County Board is nonpartisan, and all of us supervisors who are really interested in public service do a lot of listening, learning, and working together. We all bring different backgrounds and have different political orientations. The beautiful thing is that our differences on the County Board are strengths. We work together to make the most reasonable decisions for the public, and this is incredibly rewarding. It is democratic government the way we all want it to be.

I feel lucky to live in this community. I hope to have the opportunity to continue to serve my neighbors in District 25. For more information about me, please visit www.tesscarrforcountyboard.com and www.facebook.com/carrforcountyboard. (I also have a Facebook page for County Board updates: www.facebook.com/tesscarrcolumbiacountyboard.) And please vote April 2nd!

Letter from Constituent: Stay Positive – Stay with Tess

March 27, 2024

There are a couple of large signs posted in the Lodi area disparaging Tess Carr.  These signs are negative misinformation that simply is not accurate. Tess Carr has no interest in solar panels on Lake Wisconsin. That is nonsense!  She strives to build a healthy, honest thriving community for us all.

Tess Carr works tirelessly for the community.  She shows up!!   She attends meetings and listens to her constituents.  She comes well prepared

with positive, accurate information.  She strives to cultivate a more transparent government and find common ground with our neighbors.

Tess is recommended by her fellow board members.  She is also recommended by the Wisconsin Conservation Board Members, a non-partisan organization with members in all 72 Wisconsin counties. She also has union endorsements.

For the good of our county vote for Tess Carr.

Lodi Enterprise Letter: Carr takes issue with earlier letter

Mar 25, 2024

Editor's Note: Normally in our HNG publications, the final week before an election is a blackout period in which we don’t run letters to the editor regarding the election. However, the newspaper does reserve to right to run letters this week that we feel must be published to counter specific content in a previously published letter. The following letter, in response to one that ran last week, fits that category. Such decisions are made on a letter-by-letter basis.

I’d like to respond to Bill Pfeil’s attacks on me in his recent letter, which makes several false accusations. It’s important that voters know the truth.

Bill wrote that when he announced his candidacy, “Ms. Carr approached me and told me I would ‘ruin my reputation’ by doing so.” The truth is, before Bill filed for candidacy, one of my constituents called me, saying a man had just lied to her about my actions as board supervisor and asked for her nomination signature for Bill. I immediately contacted Bill, whom I considered a friend. I told him, “If people are telling lies in order to get you elected, it could ruin your good reputation.” I thought Bill could be discredited not by his candidacy, but by deceit being spread in his name for his election.

Bill’s letter also accuses me of angrily taking issue with his desire to “prioritize the people of Lodi” above outside special interest groups. This is untrue. Instead, I took issue with his campaign flyer’s implication that I inappropriately favor “corporate or special interests.” As board supervisor, I’ve worked as hard as a busy mom possibly can – solely for the residents of Lodi and Columbia County. I do not earn a single cent from any company doing business in Columbia County, nor have I ever done so (except when I taught yoga here) nor have the intention to do so. Yet I have been bizarrely and repeatedly accused of corruption and corporate conflicts of interest. The truth is, I enjoy giving my time and energy to our residents, as I do to my family, without any expectation of financial gain.

Finally, it’s untrue that I “intentionally tried to mislead people” about Bill’s intentions for running for County Board. I invite you to view the candidate forum yourself: www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfpcR0AH_qY. Bill’s letter implies that I exploited his absence from the forum to spread “dishonest rhetoric” about him. In fact, I had hoped Bill would attend the forum and respond to my statements, which were entirely factual.

I feel privileged to serve the residents of Lodi and Columbia County with all my heart. I dislike dishonesty to the public. Elected officials have a duty to honor the public trust, and that is what I will continue to do. If you have any questions about my service or anything said about me, please contact me at friendsoftesscarr@gmail.com. Thank you.

Letter: Former Board chair admires Carr's work for the county

 March 16, 2024

I wanted to tell the voters of Tess Carr’s district that I have been observing her work for the last two years and that it is very important to reelect her to the County Board.

I served for 8 years as Columbia County Board Chair, and before that as a Columbia County Sheriff Dept. Detective Lieutenant. I also served as the Village of Randolph President and was also County Board Vice Chair.

I pay attention to what goes on here, and I was impressed by Tess’s county work before I even met her. I care a lot about good government in Columbia County. I have seen that Tess cares about good government too.

She is balanced and she works hard to help take care of Columbia County. She stands up for what’s right. We need hard-working, balanced representatives who will keep our county work on the right track. Please vote for Tess Carr on April 2.

Lodi Enterprise Letter: Carr qualified, contrary to misinformation efforts

 March 2, 2024

I’m writing to endorse Tess Carr for County Board District 25. I know Tess personally and in her capacity on the County Board, where I served alongside her for over a year. We have different backgrounds and politics, but I greatly respect her work.

I would also like to clear up any rumors or insinuations about her ethics on the Board. It’s impossible to please everyone in government, and Tess and I both made some votes that we believed in strongly but that offended some county residents. Those residents then publicly attacked my character and forced a recall election against me, which I lost.

They printed flyers and mailers that implied I was unethical. For example, I had received a notice from the county that I was late in submitting an annual certification for one of my septic tanks. Their campaign flyers turned this into “he is being sued by the county for violating public health laws.” They stated that I “lied to constituents,” “used political intimidation” to silence opponents and was “part of backroom dealings” and “planned secret meetings.” All of which was untrue.

The voters in my district were misled by this misinformation, and I do not want the same thing to happen to Tess Carr. She has worked hard to serve county residents with integrity and common sense. She does not deserve to be slandered, and the residents of her district do not deserve to be misled. I hope she is reelected to the County Board on April 2.
